What is a Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van?

The VW Westfalia (or “Westy” for short) is a Volkswagen bus that was converted into an innovative campervan by Westfalia-Werke, a German RV company. Westfalia converted many different vehicles for Volkswagen from 1951 until 2003. But the most iconic Westfalia conversions were based on the VW Vanagon (made from 1979-1992).

Westies were designed to be the perfect campmobile. The interior of the Westy is surprisingly spacious with loads of storage, and it's ready for life on the road with all the basic necessities – two-burner stove, sink, fridge, a rear bench seat that converts into a bed, and even a second bed up top (both beds can sleep 2 adults). You can actually stand up and walk around when the top is popped which makes cooking or getting dressed much easier. No space is wasted, which is ideal for a tiny home. It is truly an intelligent design. Read a full review Why We Chose a Volkswagen Vanagon for Van Life at: gonomadhome.com/Volkswagen-vanagon-for-van-life/.

1986 to 1990 Vanagon Model Years

In a review by GoWesty.com, the model years between 1986-1999 are considered the best Vanagons built by Volkswagen. They are easily identified by their rectangular (instead of round) headlights. Many people think these Vanagons were better because of the increase in displacement from 1915cc to 2100cc, but in fact this was the least important change. The more important changes were improved exhaust, ignition, fuel injection, brakes and (most importantly) the cooling system. Even better, this Westy 's coolant system has been upgraded with a new radiator and stainless steel (replacing the original plastic pipes) radiator coolant pipes.

This VW Westfalia pop-top camper comes with a clean Carfax report, clean California title and smog certification.
