I am saddened to offer for sale my cherished 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible, a car
with a remarkable history and sentimental value. This car was purchased in 1949 as a birthday
gift for a 16-year-old girl. The gentleman who bought it intended it as a special present for his
daughter, and it remained in her care for 66 years until her passing in 2015 at the age of 82.. I am selling my classic car of nine years because we are downsizing our home and unfortunately do have the room or the attention that it
so deserves.
The car retained its original Pennsylvania plates until I brought it to Southern California in 2015.
While Plymouth was in great condition overall, it had obviously aged over the years. The original
paint had cracked, but the car's core condition was impressive. I immediately fell in love with the
car and, determined to preserve and enhance its beauty, I invested well over $25,000 into a
comprehensive restoration, along with many hours of love, sweat, and attention.
Some of the highlights of the restoration include:
- A professional, high-quality repaint in the original and stunning yellow color— a finish typically
seen on much more expensive cars. It was stripped to the metal: no rust was found.
- A complete engine overhaul to ensure the car runs like new.
- Transmission was rebuilt for smooth shifting and reliable performance.
- A modern 12-volt electrical system for improved power and reliability.
- A new, fully operational convertible top specific to this vehicle and new pump were installed.
- Fresh, complete leather upholstery, new carpet, and detailed interior restoration.
- An upgraded audio system, featuring a radio, CD player, and Bluetooth connectivity in the
glove compartment was installed.
- New seat belts for six passengers, adding modern safety features while maintaining the car's original
classic style.
Every switch, button, light on this car functions perfectly. It is very impressive to know that this
car came with a factory fully power retractable top was included with this car.
This 1949
Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible is now a beautifully restored, reliable, and stylish car that
captures the essence of a bygone era.
